Malcolm Hedges, 18, appeared in Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to driving without a full licence driver and failing to report the accident to police.

THE act of a learner driver who fled the scene of an accident has been dubbed ‘‘unaustralian’’ by a magistrate.

Malcolm Hedges, 18, appeared in Echuca Magistrates Court on Tuesday to plead guilty to driving without a full licence driver and failing to report the accident to police.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Dave Rennie said Mr Hedges drove to the Kyabram Club on April 16 at 7.20pm where CCTV showed him back into a car before fleeing.

‘‘Police intercepted Mr Hedges and his passenger a short time later at a service station,’’ he said.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said he wouldn’t take Mr Hedges’ licence but the act of not reporting an accident ‘‘was unaustralian’’.

Mr Hedges was issued a 12-month good behaviour bond without conviction and ordered to pay $500 to the court fund.
