VICTORIA Police has launched an informative six-part podcast to help improve the community’s understanding of sexual crimes.

Released weekly, the podcast series challenges preconceived ideas of sexual offending through interviews with victims, loved ones and the detectives who managed the investigations.

Family Violence Assistant Commissioner Dean McWhirter said sexual violence was often under-reported.

‘‘Through this podcast series, I hope we can encourage more victims to report to police,’’ Asst Comm McWhirter said.

‘‘And at the same time let them know the support available to them around the process, and to challenge some common myths and misconceptions about sexual offences and child abuse,’’ he said.

The free episodes will be released weekly on SoundCloud and iTunes. Visit https://soundcloud.com/unspeakable-by-victoriapolice/ep-01-reporting
