IT WAS a flashback to the halcyon days of basketball in Kyabram on Monday night when both courts at Kyabram Sports and Entertainment Centre teemed with young players.

Basketball Kyabram now has use of two courts at the Big House, and didn’t it look good.

On Court 1, leaping Jarom Owen-Horn scored 26 for Betta Homeliving Hornets, but it wasn’t enough for his team to get past Walker Real Estate Wildcats.

The Hornets were within reach with 5 minutes remaining, however, brothers Barnett stepped up to roll off successive scores without reply for victory, 48-36.

Over on Court 2, silky Anthony DePasquale steered Kyabram Bakery Gators to a 21-18 win over the fast-finishing Mister Embroidery Raptors in Years 7-9 division.

In Grade 5-6 division, young Bill Hipwell (10 points) helped Fab Flowers Hornets win a nail biter against ACM Raptors, 23-20.

In Grade 3-4 division, Peter Walsh Hornets and Ky Veterinary Clinic Raptors were winners.

The second-ever match for Prep/Grade 1 and 2 students was an entertaining match with the mini-ball format giving young players lots of opportunity.
