THE boys travelled to play Echuca South for their second-round clash after defeating last year’s premiers in round one. Echuca South won the toss and chose to bat first. They were 0/45 after 10 overs and Fire Brigade were looking at having to chase a big score. A great fightback from our bowlers saw Echuca South collapse with the bat and they were dismissed for 73. Four bowlers were able to get two wickets each: Ryan Thomson, Matt Fleming, Mitch Dunne and Blake McMeeken.

The batsmen then had to face 10 overs at the end of the day. The openers survived and had put on an unbeaten partnership of 60: Anthony DePasquale 46 not out and Matt Fleming 10 not out.

When day two started they only needed 14 runs to gain victory. DePasquale retired for 50 including eight fours and one six. The batsmen got some good time in the middle with Jack Norris also retiring on 50 with seven fours. Rhys Shay, with 10 fours in his 51 retired, was another player to get time in the middle. At the end of the day Fire Brigade finished 6/220 for an easy victory.

Then captain Charlie Barnett and Kaleb Williams put on another strong partnership. They both eventually retired — Barnett 34 and Williams 26. Nathan Mackison, batting at nine, finished the innings with some hard hitting, making 22. Fire Brigade finshed their 40 overs at 6/275.

Week two, the boys worked hard putting pressure on Echuca with tight bowling. Riley Williams got two wickets in one over to put Echuca under pressure. Ben Campbell then got to two wickets in a row. Some tight bowling from the spin twins Connor Langley and Will Worsfold made the going tough for Echuca. A great bowling and fielding performance from the boys dismissed Echuca Bombers for 88. Riley Williams finished with 2/5 off two overs, Ben Campbell 2/13 from four overs. Connor Langley with 1/10 off four overs, Will Worsfold 1/13 four overs, Miller Griffiths 1/6 three overs and Kaleb Williams 1/8 four overs all did well.
