MEMBER for Murray Plains Peter Walsh is encouraging sports clubs, not-for-profit organisations and community groups across the electorate to take advantage of the third and final round of the Community Shade Grants Program, now open.

Mr Walsh said funding was available in three bands:

■ Band 1 — up to $5000

■ Band 2 — $5000 to $20,000

■ Band 3 — $20,000 to $50,000

Applicants can apply for only one grant.

The program provides funding to build new shade structures, repair or replace existing shade structures, create natural shade by planting trees, purchase a portable shade – or a combination of options.

Applicants for built, repair/replacement, natural and portable shade may also apply for up to an additional $700 for sunscreen and hats.

The application process involves two stages:

1. Expression of interest

2. Full application (shortlisted applicants only)

“I am positive all eligible community organisations in the Murray Plains electorate could put additional shade structures to good use and I encourage all to look into this program as a way of achieving that,” Mr Walsh said.
