GIRGARRE Primary School is among more than 100 Victorian schools set to benefit from vital upgrades thanks to the Victorian Government.
The $24 million funding boost, recently announced by Minister for Education James Merlino and Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan, will go towards aiding schools in poor condition — with more than $33,200 going to Girgarre.
Girgarre principal Peter Caldow said these funds came just in time for the school’s centenary next year.
‘‘It will be good to spruce our school up, especially the original parts,’’ he said.
‘‘We plan to fix the roofing and guttering of the original school building and depending how the dollars stretch maybe do a bit of external painting. To have a water proof roof and an efficient guttering system will be fantastic.’’
Mr Caldow said any grant the school received would aid the students and the community.
‘‘The Girgarre community takes great pride in its educational facilities and surrounds,’’ he said. ‘‘Getting funding for this project means other school funds can be redirected towards our camps and excursion program, our intervention program and refurbishing our art supplies. The funding is very welcome and it is great to see our state government supporting our rural community.’’
More than 1000 school upgrades and 56 new school projects have been completed.
