KYABRAM has got its first ice-cream store.
Kids and Cones is now open on Allan St and if you’re a sweet tooth this is your go-to destination for those hot summer days.
However it’s not just ice-creams and toppings, there’s also a large range of children’s toys and supplies.
Owner Bronwyn Vick said the store came about because of an idea which she thought could work for Kyabram.
“We had the baby section across the road in Open House and it kept growing, so we decided it deserved its own home,” she said.
“I had been talking to parents and there seemed to be the demand for it.
“We also decided to get ice-cream in because we wanted something to go with the kids things — and we were frustrated that you can’t always get ice cream in a cone in town.”
And it seems things have gone full circle, as Kids and Cones used to be a children’s clothing store about 80 years ago.
“It was the perfect size and as soon as we saw it we knew it had potential, it’s funny how things have come back around.”
For anyone looking to get their hands on the Norgen-Vaaz ice-cream, they had best get in quick — there’s a different flavour every day.
“The ice cream has been really well received by everyone and there’s a rotation of flavours so every day there’ll be a new flavour in,” she said.
“We also have gelato — and sorbet for anyone who’s lactose intolerant — as well as a range of toppings for them.
“There are some more modern flavours such as rock salt caramel as well as some quirky ones like liquorice. For the kids we’ve got rainbow and cookies and cream which are always popular.’’
Ms Vick also had some advice for any would-be business owners out there.
“I want to encourage other people to have a go at retail. You can do it well if you have the right ideas and know how to put things into action,” she said.
“It really is just about being brave enough to put the idea into action.
“Kyabram already has plenty of services and I didn’t think this space needed to become another, we need more places for people to shop locally.”
Kids and Cones boutique gifts and ice creamery is open from 9.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am until 2pm Saturdays at 153 Allan St.
