CAMPASPE’S top traffic cop is reasonably happy with the behaviour of motorists over the Christmas-New Year period.
A total of 233 traffic offences were detected across the shire as part of Operation Roadwise, which ran from December 15 to January 7.
Of the 4,709 random breath tests carried out, Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol said 11 people were charged with drink driving offences.
‘‘Overall, with the large number of tourists and hence traffic as well as Christmas functions in the lead up, this was a good result,’’ he said.
Across Victoria, more than 31,000 traffic offences were detected and 23 people lost their lives.
Six of those were in the first week of 2018, while five of those six were on country roads.
In Campaspe, 10 collisions occurred but none resulted in serious injuries.
