School’s back so go slow

January 31, 2018

Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol is reminding motorists to obey the speed zones around schools.

MOTORISTS are being reminded to slow down around schools, with term one starting this week.

Highway patrol officers and general duties patrol units will be enforcing school speed zones across the Kyabram area.

Sergeant Paul Nicoll of Campaspe Highway Patrol (pictured) said motorists needed to slow down to 40km/h in designated school zones between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.

‘‘There will be many young prep children who are not familiar with traffic and roads etc. Just be patient and be cautious around school zones in particular,’’ he said.

‘‘Allow plenty of time to get where you are going.’’

Sgt Nicoll said motorists were generally good around school zones.

‘‘The school zone limits have been in for a number of years now, so most motorists have got into the habit of obeying the reduced speed limit during school start and end times,’’ he said.

‘‘There are however some people who just forget and they are the ones we will be concentrating on.’’

Sgt Nicoll said police would also be focusing on illegal and double parking at Kyabram schools, which was a significant problem at times.

‘‘Campaspe Shire local laws staff will also be checking on this aspect of illegal parking,’’ he said.
