PREPARATIONS are well under way for the Kyabram Fire Brigade’s 125th anniversary in April.
While it’s still a few months off, volunteers are ramping up their efforts to celebrate the milestone with a torchlight procession along Allan St on April 6.
The event is part of a weekend of celebrations for the brigade, which includes an awards night for invitees as well as an open day at the Kyabram fire station on Sunday, April 8.
“We want to have everyone involved over the weekend,” brigade member Renae Fleming said.
“For the procession we’re still deciding how far along the main street it will run and who will be involved, but we’re looking to include other brigades from around the area as well as past members of the Kyabram brigade.”
The Sunday open day will allow the public to have a look around the Kyabram station and chat with brigade members.
Ms Fleming said the event will also allow anyone considering becoming a member to see what volunteering with the local brigade involves.
“It gives people a chance to come in, see what we do and ask us questions,” she said. “There’s also the opportunity for anyone interested to come to one of our trainings and have a look — you don’t have to become a member. But the Sunday event will allow us to show everyone the history of the brigade and if we get some more members out of it that’s terrific.”
The 125th anniversary weekend will be on April 6-8 in Kyabram with the final details yet to be announced.
