Memorial Hall is in the money

February 21, 2018

The Merrigum Hall is one of six locations in the Greater Shepparton area to receive heritage funding.

MERRIGUM Memorial Hall will share in almost $25,000 in funding for heritage works projects to be completed this financial year.

As one of six buildings in the Greater Shepparton area to receive the heritage grant — available to properties in the heritage overlay — the funds will be put towards costs associated with converting places of heritage for future appreciation.

The grants program, launched last year, also aims to promote heritage conservation improvements that boost physical security or appearance while remaining respectful of the structure’s heritage value.

The other five buildings getting grants include residential properties, churches and memorial halls in Shepparton, Moorilim and Tatura.

Shepparton Council received more than 30 applications.

Mayor Kim O’Keeffe said she was pleased to see so many applications submitted.

‘‘We look forward to seeing the completion of conservation works supported by the program later this year,’’ she said.

‘‘Council was impressed with both the quantity and the standard of applications received.’’
