STANHOPE cricketer Jayke Fisher captured incredible figures of 9/14 from seven overs on Saturday.
Playing in a C grade match against Rochester United, Fisher tore through the opposition to defend his side’s total of 109.
“They came out well, it was just one of those days I guess where things go your way,” Fisher said.
Mohammad Azharuddin grabbed the remaining wicket to deny Fisher the once in a lifetime opportunity of a 10-wicket haul.
“It would’ve been nice (if it had been dropped), it was an edge actually and normally those catches don’t get taken in C grade so I was a little surprised,” Fisher laughed.
Fisher castled four of his victims and grabbed another two LBW — he puts his straight bowling down to one missing ingredient.
“I’m not fast enough to bowl short balls, so I just pitch it up try and swing it a little bit and hope that works.”
It was Fisher’s second five-wicket haul of the season after he grabbed 5/14 in round 4.
Fisher said the result was bitter sweet after his side just missed the finals.
“It was more important we got the win though, we needed to win to make finals but a few other results didn’t go our way so we missed out.”
