Cameron pips Chris in decider

February 23, 2018

Kyabram Section One team travelled to Mooroopna to play Mooroopna Gold last week.

KYABRAM Croquet Club recently held its Club Championships for ‘‘Golf’’ croquet for Sections Two and Three — there were no players eligible for Section One. The format was the best of three games of level play (no handicaps), first to score seven hoops or the best of 13 hoops.

Section Two saw a play-off between Chris Puetz and Cameron Kelly in a close contest of strategic play. The winner was decided in the third game after both had each won a game of 7/4. In the third and deciding game Cameron managed to get off to a good lead, 3/1 at the fourth hoop. Chris fought back over the next couple of hoops but Cameron rallied and ended up winning with a score of 7/3.

Margaret Sullivan and Sue Agosta played off in Section Three. This was also a very tight match with games going the full 13 hoops. Unfortunately Sue was unable to win a game as Margaret proved to be too strong on the day, winning the first two games, 7/6 and 7/6.

Margaret and Cameron will now represent Kyabram at the GVCA Golf Croquet Championships that will be held in Shepparton this year.

This will be the first time for Margaret to represent Kyabram while Cameron will be looking for back to back wins when he defends his 2017 title. Congratulations to you both, well done.

The KCC ‘‘Association’’ Croquet Championship has not yet been played due to lack of players although Helen Hastie is still be eligible to represent Kyabram, if she so chooses, at the GVCA Championships at Rich River courts, Moama.

Twilight Evenings are still running on Thursday nights and are open to anyone who would like to join us. The game is also suitable for children over the age of 10, but they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. KCC members have WWC certificates. The courts are at 64-70 Church St, Kyabram, opposite St.Augustine’s Church.

Players may register from 7pm, with play commencing at 7.30pm. Light refreshments provided, also malletts are available. Please flat-soled shoes.
