TWO car parking spaces in Kyabram’s Fenaughty St have been removed.

After receiving a petition calling for the parking bays to be gone Campaspe Shire Council made a unanimous decision to comply.

They voted to relocate the ‘no standing’ sign on the south eastern corner of the Fenaughty-Union St intersection further away from the intersection — resulting in the loss of the two spaces.

Councillor Vicki Neele said this decision came as a result of a petition but could have been solved quicker.

‘‘If something like this comes up the best way forward is to call the council,’’ she said.

‘‘A common misconception is that council isn’t there for people but we are and if an issue like this is flagged council officers will investigate and often make changes which is a much speedier process.’’

The main concern for residents was when the car spaces were occupied it reduced vision for motorists waiting at the southern leg of the intersection.

Cr John Zobec said the intersection can get very busy at times.

‘‘It can get quite bogged down sometimes so the easier it is for road users to see the better,’’ he said.

‘‘Although there was the option of bringing in a request to council there was obviously enough community concern for a petition to be started and signed.’’
