A YOUNG man was left beaten and bloody in a Kyabram car park earlier this month, in what police are calling an opportunistic attack.
The Rochester man, 20, was at the rear car park of the Bradley St supermarket when he was approached by a Kyabram man on February 19, just before 5pm.
The Kyabram man, 29, proceeded to allegedly repeatedly kick and punch the victim, inflicting serious cuts and abrasions to the man’s head and torso.
A number of passersby witnessed the attack and the Rochester man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries.
Kyabram police Senior Constable Russell Locke said the offender allegedly located the victim the day after in hospital, making further threats. The alleged attacker was located the following day hiding in a house in Kyabram, where he was arrested.
‘‘We know that the two men were known to each other and we don’t believe, at this time, that drugs or alcohol were involved, it was just an opportunistic assault,’’ Sen Const Locke said.
‘‘The victim is OK now, he has been released from hospital, but it was a pretty violent assault.’’
The alleged offender was released on bail, and charged with assault-related offences.
He will appear in the Echuca Magistrates’ Court on April 11.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident has been urged to phone the Kyabram police on 5853 1777.
