SHEPPARTON acoustic music duo Shane Muir and Ken Wong are taking their performance around the Goulburn Valley.
The tour began in Tatura and the next few weeks will see Shane and the Wong brother head to venues in Dookie, Mooroopna and Undera.
Ken Wong, band member and manager of the duo, is describing it as a “mini pub tour” to kick off the duo’s first series of gigs outside Shepparton since forming in the second half of 2017.
“We’ve played at Shingo’s Lounge, one of the Secret Garden gigs and a few private functions in Shepparton, but it’s time we spread our wings a little further afield,” Mr Wong said.
“We’re hoping to keep adding gigs as we go along, it will become a bit like a rolling tour throughout the Goulburn Valley. Needless to say we’re keen to hear from any pubs or small venues who might be interested in booking us.”
The idea for the tour came from what Mr Wong described as a “changed music scene”. He believes many local music venues now focus on poker machines.
“The state of the local music industry has made me have to think outside the box,” Mr Wong said.
“What I am finding is there are some interesting things happening in smaller outlying towns and I am hoping there are more opportunities out there to be discovered. It’s a little like the Paul Kelly song From little things big things grow… or maybe that Kevin Costner movie: “build it and they will come!”
Recently the duo has appeared live on local community radio station 98.5 ONE FM with presenter Terri Cowley and received a favourable response with a Facebook video of their performance receiving more than 1,000 views.
