AFTER a stellar performance at the Victorian Championships James Woods is headed to Sydney for the National Junior Athletics Championships.
While he didn’t take out the top spot in high jump — he was beaten by a mere 4cm — clearing the bar at 182cm secured him a spot.
His mother Andrea said the placing was terrific news.
“His high jump was the best outcome — he beat his personal best and jumped higher than he is tall,” she said.
“You come to expect these things but it’s great to see them come to fruition.”
Woods also qualified in pole vault and javelin events, which means the family will be carting the 3m poles all the way to Sydney.
And Andrea said any help covering the cost is appreciated.
“It’s a reasonably costly exercise to get everything up there, and they expect the athletes to bring their own poles to the events,” she said.
“It’s $800 for flights, $600 for the uniform and a couple of hundred for entry — that’s before you have any accommodation and the hire car to get there.”
The Woods family will be in Sydney for four days of the competition, from March 14-18.
