THREE amigos with little to no basketball experience were winners at Basketball Kyabram’s inaugural Labour Day tournament on Monday.

Liam McInnes, Charlie Boswood and Jacob Cartwright (pictured) teamed to win the Grade 1-2 division at Kyabram Youth Club Hall.

Basketball Kyabram director Michael Maskell said the youngsters showed how easily children can have success in the modified format.

“Lower rings, smaller ball and reduced court size puts the game within kids’ reach,” Maskell said.

“The kids take delight in whipping the ball up and down the court and scoring lots of goals.

“I’m really excited about this format because kids are learning through play, which is, as we know, the best way to learn.”

He said he hoped to see the tournament grow in years to come.

Basketball Kyabram’s Term 1 competition is at its climax, with semi-finals set for next Monday at Kyabram Sports and Entertainment Centre from 6pm.

Registrations are now being taken for next term. Go to to secure your spot, or call Michael on 0414 815 527 for more information.
