THE Kyabram Fauna Park has issued a reminder to locals to be on the lookout for turtles.
After some rainfall a fortnight ago, turtles will be looking to find a safe spot to lay their eggs.
“The rain has softened the soil, so the female turtles will be out on the loose to find a nice area for their eggs,” Ron Pope from the Park said.
“We just want to remind locals to not panic if you see one out and about over the next few weeks, they are only doing what’s natural.”
Turtles don’t lay their eggs near water, so Mr Pope said while it might seem they are a long way from home, they know what they’re doing.
Representatives from Turtles Australia will make their way to the Fauna Park on April 5.
“They will be there to inform people about turtles and also just to have a bit of a chat so come down and see what they have to offer,” Mr Pope said.
