CAMERON Kelly, with the help of his two GVCA team members, won the Victorian Golf Croquet Regionals at Cairnlea for the second year running.
The Lefel Shield was held over the weekend of April 21 and 22.
There were 35 players from 12 areas vying for the honour to be the best region in the state. The winning team was decided by the most points scored over the three sections.
Goulburn Valley was defending their title from 2017 and was represented by Deniliquin’s Darren McLoughlin (section 1), Kyabram’s Cameron Kelly (2) and debut player from Shepparton Ian Grose (3).
Saturday was a full day of eight games played with the remainder games played on Sunday.
Darren McLoughlin came in third, Cameron Kelly came fifth and Ian Grose was runner-up in Section Three. Cameron played very well, several of his games decided on the 13th hoop, can’t get any closer than that if you are to lose a game. Well done Cameron.
The GVCA ended up with a winning score of 186 points from the North Eastern region (Benalla-Albury), on 179 points. The NEDCA also came in second place to the GVCA last year.
Kyabram Croquet Club has continued on its winning ways in the past few weeks with members enjoying success at Social Days.
At Numurkah on April 10, both Chris Puetz and Rayleen McDonald — along with four other players — had won all of their four matches. There was only a hoop difference between each placegetter, first to sixth, with Chris Puetz taking out the winner’s prize.
Members travelled to Benalla on April 26 for the Joan Rowan Memorial Trophy. It was great to play against members from the NEDCA, who we only get to see at these social days. Rayleen McDonald took out equal first prize with a Wangaratta player, Elise Downes. The trophy will be engraved with both names and is kept permanently at the Benalla Clubhouse. Not one to be out done though, Chris Puetz won a bottle of wine in the raffle draw. Well done ladies!
Club day at Kyabram is on Mondays from 10am, new players are most welcome to join us, equipment is provided. Contact Margaret on 58531362 or Rayleen 58532394, or email [email protected]
