Rupinder Singh, Jon Van Popering, Gurdip Singh and Gurinder Singh of Seeka Orchards enjoy the meeting.

The Goulburn Valley Growers and Emerging Leaders Group gathered at Kialla’s Peppermill Hotel last week to hear about soil structure and a seasonal update from horticultural experts.

Hybrid Ag soil scientist Judah Rowe and IK Caldwells agronomist and pear grower Enver Sabri spoke to the small group, with their talks opening up plenty of discussion from the floor.

‘‘Judah Rowe gave an intense and fascinating presentation around soil structure, needs and capabilities, which is very timely leading into the growing year,’’ Goulburn Valley Crop Protection’s Elizabeth Mace said.

Mr Rowe said it was important to note that whatever you do to improve soil nutrition there was always flow-on effects.

‘‘You cannot do anything without affecting everything,’’ he said.

‘‘Next Enver Sabri shared with us some of his 42 years experience as an agronomist and pear grower, letting us know the season ahead, at this time, is on track and there should be no surprises.’’ Ms Mace said.

The GV Growers and Emerging Leaders Group’s next event is in October.
