The Smith family has been left ‘‘very pleased’’ following the September 28 sale at its Poll Dorset stud, Heathmar, with a total of 90 rams sold.
There was a total clearance of lots on the day, with a top price of $1700. The first 70 rams sold for an average of $1300 with the sale achieving an overall average of $1233.
Robert Smith, who runs the stud alongside his wife Heather, son Phillip and grandson Todd, said it was a solid sale and a reflection of the positivity in the industry.
‘‘It was very good and an indication of the lamb industry. We’re enjoying a very good season and prices are very pleasing,’’ he said.
‘‘We are selling our lambs and making great prices, and the industry is looking good.’’
The rams were sent across the region, with buyers from Elmore, Yea, Longwood, Nathalia and Dookie, as well as plenty of locals surrounding the Murchison stud, snapping up the rams.
The Gall family from Goorambat was the volume buyer on the day, purchasing 10 rams.
