The 16-year-old has been blitzing the local athletics scene and has caught the attention of Sports Travel Australia.
He will first travel to British Columbia to compete at the Jack Brow Meet in Kelowna, then at the British Columbia Provincial Championships at Kamloops.
Hosted by the Okanagan Athletics Club, the annual event sees more than 500 athletes from British Columbia and adjoining provinces compete.
Talbot will leave for Vancouver in June and will get straight into training to acclimatise before his first competition.
“We can pick four events to compete in and I’m pretty sure I will go with javelin, triple jump and the 100 and 200m sprints,” Talbot said.
“I enjoy doing a range of events so I may change my mind but those are my preferred events.”
Talbot said he was excited for the trip as he had never been overseas and it would give him a chance to do some sightseeing.
“We have a good amount of free time between competition days so I’m looking forward to doing some touristy things,” he said.
“I’m a little bit nervous about the whole experience but I’m very excited and happy to have this opportunity.
“I’ve always wanted to travel and combining it with athletics makes it even better. It will be a challenge but I am confident in my abilities.”
Talbot said his passion for athletics came from his upbringing on a farm where he did a lot of outside work.
“I loved being outdoors as a kid and being active so athletics is an extension of that,” he said.
“That combined with a family with a sporting background meant athletics was an easy decision for me as it’s something I’ve always enjoyed.”
Talbot is hoping to find some sponsorship to fund his trip.
“I don’t want mum and dad to be stuck with the bill so I’m doing my best to save as much money as I can, but any help would be much appreciated,” he said.
