In the game at Kyabram the home team’s solid score of 245 was easily defended by the team’s bowlers, who dismissed Mooroopna for 93 in 50.2 overs.
The only Mooroopna batsman to hold up the Kyabram attack was former Kyabram player Brendan Sleeth, who made 34 against his old side.
Teenager Hawes was the star in the win for Kyabram, excelling with both bat and ball.
Hawes made 48 off 82 deliveries and shared in a third-wicket stand of 110 with Paul Parsons, who top scored with 51 off 116 deliveries.
Opener Pat Parsons contributed 28 and other handy scores, from Jason Parsons who made 35 off 51 balls and Damien Parsons with 26, ensured Kyabram had a competitive score on the board.
After his near half-century Hawes took the new ball and claimed an innings-wrecking 5/26 off 17 overs with seven maidens to ensure the Kyabram win.
He was well supported by Nick Chambers with 3/5 off six overs, including four maidens.
Kyabram now meets Numurkah in the grand final at Mooroopna this weekend.
