Ky Show this Saturday

KYABRAM Show secretary Janelle McDonald and her husband Neville know a thing or two about hard work. They've been part of the tireless Kyabram show committee that have practically lived at the showgrounds as preparations for the annual Kyabram Show, on this Saturday, have heated up.And it's not just the show itself they have been busy preparing — Neville will have some of his finest dairy cows on show, and is hoping to continue his winning streak from last year. It's his 40th year at the show, which has been running since 1927. “The Ky Show has always put on a good dairy show and I'm looking forward to some stiff competition,” he said. He has been busy preparing his animals, which he also entered into the Shepparton Show last weekend. “Going to the shows is a great way to keep your stud in front of everyone and acts as a meeting point for people,” he said. “The Ky Show gets everyone together in community and co-operation.”While Neville is busy with his cows, Mrs McDonald will walk 12 to 14 kilometres patrolling the event and keeping everything on track. And there is a lot to keep on top of. This year families are expected to flock to the showgrounds to enjoy camel rides, a huge photography exhibit, a wildlife display and plenty more free entertainment for the kids. There's also a section for breastfeeding mothers near the kids play area. The dog show has had a significant facelift under new secretary Jo Sieter, who has organised a pearl necklace with a value of $100 as a prize in a raffle anyone can enter. And the ever-popular tiny tots will be strutting their stuff for the chance at a sash. There is also a new prize for children in the horticulture show, which has been generously donated by the Kyabram Garden Club. And of course, an array of delicious food and drink for purchase. “It's a great opportunity for families to have a fun and affordable day out,” Mrs MacDonald said. “It's always good to see farmers standing around and talking with each other, especially after a very tough few years.“Everyone goes home happy.”The 92nd Kyabram Show will run at the showgrounds on Saturday from 9am to 5pm.Patron tickets ($25) are available at the office until Friday or at the gate on Saturday, with individual tickets for adults ($15) and high school students ($10) also available. Primary aged children and those under school age admitted free.A family ticket is $30 but is only available from the Show office before the day, and won’t be available at the gate.
