The expansion, due to be completed in September, will see considerable changes to the inside as well as the outside with the aim of providing more space for their children to learn and play.
The biggest changes to be made over the next four months include converting a section of the car park into an open play space, expanding the indoor room past the covered decking area to allow seamless indoor-to-outdoor movement, removing a storage room and kitchen for more floor space as well as removing internal walls to open up the facility.
The changes will also make the centre 100 per cent disability friendly.
KCLC Early Learning director Emily Edgar said despite it being early days, the children have already responded positively to the new space.
“This is a way to give the children new and exciting learning environments they have never been in before... and by not having walls, we have the freedom to make sure it’s really open and comfortable for them to develop and grow,” she said.
“Using the new yard as just one example, we are going to really help work on those gross motor skills by having more space and real grass.
“It’s been a nearly three-year project and to finally see it being complete with the aim of being (complete) in September is fantastic.”
And once the expansion is complete, KCLC Early Learning will be able to double their placements from 30 to 60 in anticipation of three-year-old kinder rolling out next year.
Ms Edgar said she was excited to see how the new changes would help cultivate their little learners and give them the best possible start to their education.
“Working together as a team and really building on our family connections is why we have been so successful. We have people on waiting lists because of the unique education we provide as educators,” she said.
“In 2021 with three-year-old kinder rolling out, we’ll definitely be opening our doors to three-year-old kinder and four-year-old kinder. We’re really excited about expanding on that.”
