Don’t miss out on your chance to hear from well-known supercar drivers who have raced and won the Bathurst 1000.
Tickets are $85 per person and include entry to Sunday’s show and shine. Supper is included, drinks are at bar prices and there will be auctions and giveaways on the night.
Run by the Kyabram Lions Club in partnership with local car enthusiasts Chris and Sheryl Hatch, the inaugural event was a roaring success and saw motoring enthusiasts from across the country gather for a weekend of pristine cars and high-profile speakers.
The 2019 show and shine is on Sunday, February 24 and will feature legends Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Joe Felice and John Sheppard.
“Peter Brock’s 1991 O5 VN Commodore race car will be here and we are also in negotiation to get some other historic racers here to Ky, so stay tuned,” Chris said.
And while the focus of the event is the classic rivalry between Ford and Holden, organisers Chris and Sheryl Hatch said all car makes are very welcome to attend.
The event will also feature Holden and Ford dealer displays, House of Muscle, Street Empire Trucks, bands, food stalls and other vendors.
According to the attendee evaluation results conducted and evaluated by the Shire of Campaspe after the first event, the economic boost to the area was staggering, and 98 per cent of attendees who participated in the survey said that they would definitely attend the event again.
Sheryl said the inaugural event received a fantastic response and was a great benefit to the local community.
“Our initial goal for the first event was to at least break even financially, and with a bit of luck have sufficient funds to make the kick-off for the next event a bit less stressful,’’ she said.
‘‘We achieved this and were also able to return a substantial amount back into the local community via the Lions Club annual disbursements.
‘‘This event is huge for the town and really put Kyabram on the map. And all proceeds go to local charity.
‘‘We had a few things that did not quite go as planned last year but that was to be expected for our first attempt and we have rectified them this year.”
The concept was hatched by Melbournian Colin Crane, who Chris and Sheryl met through the Aussie Torana Legends Social Cruisers.
‘‘His Torana group came up to Ky a few times and we kept on discussing the possibility of an event like Legends of the Mountain,’’ Sheryl said.
‘‘The next thing we were doing it. Steve Whyte from WD Motorsports got on board as well and we formed a committee. We then started looking for help and the Ky Lions Club were amazing and put their hands up right away.
“We hope the Kyabram and district community will get behind the event. It’s going to be a great day out and we would love support from the locals.”
Chris and Sheryl said Jayell Ford, Thompson Holden, Kyabram Free Press, Campaspe Shire, Corporate Shadows, Mister Embroidery, Kyabram Club, Kyabram and District Community Bank, Dr Drum Furniture and Shannon’s were among the major sponsors, with many other local businesses also supporting the event.
Doors open at 6pm for a 7pm start for the Saturday night event and it’s on at the Kyabram Bocce Bowls function centre on the corner of Breen Ave and Fischer St. Gates open at 8am on Sunday and show car entry is $10 per car and general public are $5 each with children free.
