CRAIG Sartori got more than he bargained for recently when what he thought was a snag on his fishing line turned out to be a massive 60-pound cod.
The Kyabram local was fishing with mates Bradley Hogg and Ted Stuart at McCoys Bridge on the Goulburn when just before dusk Craig felt a tug on his line.
‘‘I had to get the other blokes to come over and help me, I couldn’t pull him in myself he was so big,’’ Craig said.
After a short struggle, their prize was releasing the giant back into the water. ‘‘It was amazing to see it go as it was released,’’ Craig said.
He used shrimp as bait but said the catch had little to do with skill and a lot to do with luck. ‘‘It’s definitely the biggest I’ve ever caught by a long way,’’ he said.
