For the third year running the health service is engaging in a friendly competition against other local health organisations in the region to see who can clock the most physical activity.
Health Promotion Coordinator Danae Rush said staff are keen to take out this years title, with a record number of staff participating.
“It’s not all about winning, it’s about getting active and participating. It’s important for staff to stay active not only for physical health but for mental health,” she said.
Staff have been given opportunities to take part in activities such as pilates, dancing, a walking group, yoga and strength training.
Across Victoria, participation in physical activity drops dramatically during adolescence, halving from 120 minutes to 60 minutes.
In Campaspe, almost 26 per cent of residents do no exercise at all.
The Premier’s Active April challenge encourages Victorians to get active for 30 minutes every day during the month of April.
With the free app, people can track their own activities or also use it to either join or create a team if they wish.
Research from AusPlay has found that only a third of Australians aged 55 and older are sufficiently active, with poor health or injury being the biggest barrier to participating in sport or physical activity.
There are a number of local gyms in Kyabram — and the surrounding district — that are taking part in the challenge and they will be offering discounts during April.
“It’s a program that is well worth getting involved in,” Ms Rush said.
Anyone who might be interested in joining Active April has until the end of the month to sign up by going to activeapril.vic.gov.au
