Young Flames burn bright for GM

YOUNG Fire Brigade cricketers Anthony De Pasquale and Ryan Thomson excelled in the annual Northern Rivers Cricket Junior Country Week series last week.

The Flames’ pair starred in the final two Under 17 showdowns against Bendigo District Cricket Association to complete a six game unbeaten week in the series for the Goulburn Murray side.

In the first game against Bendigo De Pasquale top scored with 38 and was well supported by Thomson (31) in a score of 8/86. The GM bowlers then restricted Bendigo to 7/76 to bring off the win.

De Pasquale stood up again in the second game, making 45 opening the batting as GM compiled 6/111. The GM bowlers got the job done again restricting Bendigo to 84 to claim the title.

De Pasquale finished with 173 runs at an average of 43.3 to be the leading run maker for the week. He pipped Cricket Shepparton’s Andrew Lloyd, with 171 runs at 42.8, for the honour.

Goulburn Murray’s Under 15 side also had a big week to claim the title, also against Bendigo.

Cricket Shepparton’s two Under 13 sides won their respective competitions against Goulburn Murray and Bendigo respectively.
