FOUR local cricketers featured in the Goulburn Murray side that defeated Bendigo District Cricket Association in the Northern Rivers Shield recently.
Anthony DePasquale, Charlie Barnett, Ryan Thomson (Kyabram Fire Brigade) and Ryan Hatch (Cooma) all contributed to the under-16 victory at Strathfieldsaye.
GMC booked its spot in the final after knocking off Murray Valley in their previous match thanks to DePasquale (60 retired not out) and Blake Evans (44).
In the final, Moama youngster Errol Burns top-scored with 56 runs off 126 balls and snared 3-20 to help his side claim the shield by nine runs.
GMC won the toss and elected to bat first, sending out DePasquale and Blake Evans.
However, Evans failed to capitalise with the bat as he was dismissed by Bendigo bowler Matt Morgan, who ended with figures of 4-18.
Burns then made his way to the crease and together with DePasquale, put on a match-winning 53-run partnership.
A late cameo from Echuca South’s Joel Stephens (16) pushed GMC to 9-128 from its allocated overs.
Defending a low total would prove no drama for the GMC side, with Evans (Rochester) chipping in with ball in hand to walk away with terrific figures of 3-15.
Thomson and Barnett also contributed with the ball, finishing with figures of 1/12 and 1/27 respectively.
