And you could tell it meant more to the Tongala netballers than it had in a long time.
The Blues — in the early stages of a rebuild — had a strong 10-goal victory against Numurkah to notch up their first win under coach Caddison Mulholland.
And their coach couldn’t have been happier with her team’s performance.
‘‘It was a fantastic victory for our club,’’ she said.
‘‘There is no doubt we still have some work to do which will come with time, but everything we have looked at so far this season played a part in our success on Sunday.
‘‘We had the positive mindset which served us so well in our opening game against Moama, but we really picked up our intensity this week and we could immediately see the results.
‘‘Our ball movement was better, the girls really backed each other in and that made the day so much better for us as a club.’’
Mulholland said the victory would make a huge difference for the season.
‘‘We are still a really fresh group,’’ she said.
‘‘There are some new players coming into the team, we have some returning players as well and the reality is it will take a bit of time for everyone to really get to know each other as players and how we will work best together.
‘‘The thing with a victory is it lifts everyone’s confidence straight away, we start to have some good feelings about what we are able to do as a side. It really brings everyone together.’’
The Blues take on a Nathalia side who haven’t set the world on fire yet this season on Good Friday, with Mulholland expecting her side to improve further before the clash.
‘‘We are adding new elements to our game plan every week and we will do so again this week,’’ she said.
‘‘Our attitude towards training and learning has been fantastic, so we expect to continue to improve which is great for the future of our netball club.’’
