A national report card has highlighted that North East Water has the most affordable water bills in Australia.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s National Performance Report 2017-18: Urban Water Utilities compares the performance of the country’s water utilities and councils.
North East Water Managing Director Craig Heiner said North East Water’s residential customers pay an average of $894 per year compared to the country’s highest average water bill of $1974.
“This is a great outcome for our customers and it’s the third year in a row that we have been found to have Australia’s most affordable bill,” Mr Heiner said.
“We understand that the affordability of essential services is a real challenge for many people. It’s great to play a small part in reducing some of that that pressure on regional households.
“The report also shows that North East Water supplied a high volume of recycled water for commercial, industrial, agricultural, and environmental use.
“During the period, 8,432 million litres of treated sewage were re-used and this was the most recycled water used by any medium sized utility in the country.
“Overall, this was a great report from the Bureau of Meteorology. As we do every year, we’ll be aiming to keep improving on the performance of our business in all areas.”
