First half lapses punished the Benalla Lady Breakers in their double-header against the Wallan Panthers and Shepparton Gators on the weekend.
Heading to Wallan on Saturday night, the Breakers had the tough task of facing off against a team sitting second on the ladder at 6-1 halfway through the season.
With seasoned shooters in Carley Cranston (24 points), Amber Ross (18) and Karina Marasco (14) on fire, Wallan ran out to a unbeatable 46-point lead at half-time.
In a stronger second half, the Breakers’ defence somewhat diluted the Panthers attack, though the margin still ballooned out to 66 at the final siren.
Returning to Benalla Indoor Recreation Centre on Sunday, the Breakers had their mind sharply focused on a upset against Shepparton Gators, who they played earlier in the season.
But it was again a slow start that scorched their chances, with the Gators running out to a 32-point lead at half-time.
Hungry to rectify their errors, the Breakers only conceded five more points across the second half, but the damage was done as the Breakers fell to their ninth consecutive loss for the season.
Benalla teen Isabella Riley starred across the two matches, shooting a combined 34 points, which included nailing five three-pointers.
The young side will have a bye, before a tough double-header against the undefeated Wodonga Wolves and Wallan Panthers, who this time travel to Benalla.
