The dairy farm belonging to former dairy industry leader, Allan Burgess, was offered at auction on Friday, November 26, but failed to attract a bid.
The Tallygaroopna farm with three homes, a 40-a-side dairy and water, on a total area of 485 hectares, was offered in two lots — Zeerust School Rd and Boundary Rd — by Kevin Hicks Real Estate.
The first lot (202 ha) was placed on the market with a vendor bid of $2 million and the second (283 ha) started with invitations at $3 million.
Mr Burgess is a former Australian Dairy Industry Council chair and National Farmers’ Federation trade representative.
He and his wife, Mary, are retiring from farming after having spent 48 years on the property and intend to live on a house excised from the Tallygaroopna farm.
Auctioneer Kevin Hicks invited negotiations after the auction.
