KDHS conducts COVID-19 testing at HW Greenham and Sons

KYABRAM District Health Service (KDHS) recently attended HW Greenham and Sons, Tongala, where staff conducted a COVID-19 asymptomatic testing blitz on 260 employees.

To comply with the guidance of the Department of Health and Human Services, four KDHS staff members attended the site over two days.

According to the Victorian Government, all meat-processing plants are considered high-risk and must follow strict health guidelines as part of their individual COVIDSafe Plans.

KDHS interim acute nurse unit manager Sara Pettifer said the blitz provided no positive cases, which was a huge win for the district.

“Thankfully, every single result came back negative. It was a productive experience for everybody which was great,” she said.

“We want to thank Greenham’s for being so willing to co-operate and putting the community first in ensuring everyone in our area stays safe and abides by the recommendations from the government and the Department of Health and Human Services.”

HW Greenham and Sons general manager Tom Maguire said it was a credit to the abattoir's staff for following the guidelines correctly.

“For us, it’s great. It’s recognition that everyone has been working really hard and following the rules onsite and we’re really grateful to all the staff up there,” he said.

Mr Maguire said all HW Greenham and Sons sites across Victoria would schedule their own testing.

KDHS also conducted an asymptomatic testing blitz at Countrywide Petfoods in Stanhope, where about 45 staff members were tested.
