He stands for a long time and watches the cars making careful right hand turns, from Railway Ave into Morinda St in Ringwood East.
Just after 8am on February 28, 2019, Katrina Elise Parker made this turn at a speed of just 20km/h in her Mazda, hitting and killing pedestrian Magda Pashley.
Mrs Pashley, 81, was using a walking frame to make her way across the street when Parker struck her, knocking her to the ground.
She was rushed to the Alfred Hospital but died some days later from head injuries.
Parker had crossed to the wrong side of the road when she made the turn, something Mr Pashley still struggles to understand more than three years later.
"I look at the cars, none of them do anything like that. They're all going through on the right side of the road. Every time I see it, it's just another reminder of how extreme that corner cutting was," he told AAP.
Although Mrs Pashley was over 80 and long retired from her job in a Bayswater furniture factory, she could never be described as elderly, enjoying gardening and even pruning the trees herself.
"She was just a very strong willed, courageous sort of person, really energetic, lively and quick witted," he said outside court.
Parker, 37, had called an ambulance after the crash and later told police the sun was in her eyes and she had not seen her victim.
The registered psychologist pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and on Friday was sentenced to 250 hours of unpaid community work and had her licence cancelled for three years.
Parker worked as a senior clinician in mental health services. She has a toddler and is pregnant with her second child, while her long-term partner has chronic health problems.
Judge Martine Marich said Parker had been overwhelmed with remorse.
But Mr Pashley said that his family was yet to receive any apology for his mother's death, which rankles as they try to deal with a grief that has not lessened with time due to the way she died.
"It's not like Katrina Parker is like a career criminal or anything. She's a normal member of society who happens to have driven very, very badly with terrible consequences for us and for Mum," he said.
"I don't think we're ever going to really understand what what was going through her mind."
Mr Pashley wants motorists to pay more attention behind the wheel and take an extra moment to look around.
"I think if Katrina Parker had been doing that, Mum would still be here today," he said.
