The camp, which will take place in next year's first-term holidays, will bring together local police officers and Kyabram Blue Light members to have some high-adrenaline fun.
It's going to be an action-packed weekend, with activities such as the flying fox and a giant swing, as well as traditional camp favourites like canoeing, raft building, swimming and other land-based challenges.
It’s technology-free — which may pose a challenge to some kids who have grown up on iPhones — and is based outdoors, aiming to reconnect kids with nature.
The camp is already full and constable Mitchell Bull said he has been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming interest.
“We are taking 50 kids from all over the area including Kyabram, Stanhope and Lancaster,” he said.
“I've heard from parents that it's all the kids have been talking about, they are pretty excited.”
Greg Ryan from the Kyabram Club said they valued the opportunity to support local youth.
“It struck us as being a really worthwhile activity to be a part of,” he said.
“It's giving kids who need a bit of direction those positive role models.”
Their support means that the cost of the camp is heavily subsidised and some families have received full or partial sponsorship.
The Blue Light committee hopes the outcomes for the young people participating will be increased confidence, social awareness, problem solving, and teamwork.
Constable Bull said the Blue Light team would look at more camps next year.
