KYVALLEY Tennis Club has put its small community on the map after being nominated for the 2018/19 Most Outstanding Club award.
Thanks to its community-driven approach, the small town of 329 permanent residents now boasts 261 members — a 149 per cent increase over the past year.
And after two major infrastructure upgrades through Community Shade and Pick My Project grants, the club has proven it has what it takes to bring a community together through inclusion in sports.
“It is fantastic that our volunteers, coaches and clubs are recognised in this way. Of course, it is not just the last 12 months of work that is recognised but years of commitment back to their communities. All of us at Tennis Victoria are hugely grateful for their involvement in the delivery of our sport,” Tennis Victoria chief executive Ruth Holdaway said.
“I look forward to seeing them all at the Newcombe Medal awards ceremony and wish them all the best luck — I have my fingers crossed for them all!”
The Newcombe Medal will be held on Monday, December 2 in the Palladium Ballroom at Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment Complex.
Reigning Newcombe medalists, world number one Ash Barty and world number 18 Alex de Minaur, will be in attendance, along with legends and volunteers from the Australian tennis community.
