Applications for the program opened on Friday, January 10. It provides up to $5000 for training for coaches, officials and volunteers, $5000 to improve operational effectiveness, $2000 to address barriers that Indigenous athletes face in terms of participation in sport and active recreation, and $1000 for new uniforms and equipment.
Since 2014, the Victorian Government has provided more than 3500 sporting club grants totalling more than $4.9 million.
State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the program was part of the Labor Government’s commitment to making sport more accessible and inclusive, increasing local participation, stimulating local economies and building sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities.
“Local sports clubs are the heart and soul in regional and rural areas — they bring people together and create a healthy, happy and united community,” he said.
“The Sporting Club Grants Program is giving local clubs across Northern Victoria the support they need to grow their ranks and help more people play the sports they love.
“I encourage sports clubs and associations to tap in to the opportunities that these sporting club grants can deliver for members and the wider communities.”
