The 2020 intake included four registered nurses, two enrolled nurses, a physiotherapy graduate and a medical intern who will work at Kyabram Regional Clinic through the Murray to the Mountains Rural Generalist Intern Training program.
Kyabram has enjoyed the benefits of the M2M interns being placed at Kyabram Regional Clinic and KDHS over the past three years, with the inaugural intern, Dr Lam Nguyen, returning to Kyabram to undertake his GP registrar training in 2019.
The internship program provides the opportunity for career progression from undergraduate to GP, with a strong foundation for a rural medical career.
The two enrolled nurses, Shelby Walsh and Olivia Sheedy, who earned their qualifications through TAFE, will be the first to complete a dedicated graduate program at KDHS.
Both are Kyabram locals and have always had an interest in working at KDHS.
Stephanie Watson, a La Trobe graduate, had her interest in nursing confirmed after completing work experience and clinical placements at KDHS.
Sheila Lao is a Federation University graduate who worked previously at KDHS as an enrolled nurse.
Vickie Webb, a La Trobe University graduate, completed clinical placements at KDHS, which sparked her interest in completing a graduate year at KDHS.
Megan Somerville has relocated from Gippsland and will be the first graduate to complete a dedicated graduate year in Sheridan Aged Care.
Physiotherapy graduate Jordan Tobin, an Elmore local who attended Rochester Secondary College, earned his Masters of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in Bendigo and will be working in the areas of outpatients, acute ward, and Sheridan Aged Care and group programs.
KDHS chief executive Anne McEvoy said she along with staff were excited to see the new crop find their feet and kick off their respective careers.
“It’s not only about how we support the graduates but how we can learn from them because they’ll bring in new ideas and experiences,” she said.
“We hope they can remain an employee of KDHS for years to come.”
