As part of National Volunteer Week, this year was especially important considering KDHS’s volunteers have been unable to work for several months due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Instead of just waiting until next year, staff took the restrictions as an opportunity to produce and send out a special video to every volunteer telling them how much they were missed.
KDHS chief executive Anne McEvoy said that especially during this uncertain time, staff felt it was more important than ever to recognise and acknowledge their volunteers.
“The theme for National Volunteer Week 2020 was ‘Changing Communities – Changing Lives’ and all our volunteers certainly do this,” she said.
“To all the volunteers in our community we wish you all a very happy National Volunteer Week and thank you for your commitment and dedication to your community.”
KDHS volunteer co-ordinator Alma Limbrick said many of the volunteers were moved by the gesture.
“Especially in the country, our communities wouldn’t run without our volunteers. They really are the lifeblood of any community and often go unrecognised,” she said.
“A couple of volunteers who saw the video said they thought it was fantastic and that they were really missing their contact with KDHS.
“Our volunteers may not be here, but they are missed.”
