CAMPASPE Animal Shelter have stressed people from Melbourne and Mitchell Shire cannot visit Echuca to adopt cats and dog.
It comes as an influx of lockdown residents have tried to.
“The shelter advertises pets for adoption on a statewide register, so they do receive inquiries from both metropolitan and rural areas,” Campaspe Shire community general manager Keith Oberin said.
“Since the start of the pandemic, the Campaspe Animal Shelter has seen an increase in adoption numbers, with animals being rehomed across the entire state.
“With Melbourne currently in lockdown, restrictions prohibit Melbourne and Mitchell Shire residents from travelling anywhere for non-essential travel or services.”
Workers at the shelter have been making sure these people know coming to the area isn't an option.
“Shelter staff are screening all calls and advising those from the lockdown areas that it is not currently recommended to travel to Echuca for the viewing or adoption of animals,” he said.
