They were a gift to the Church of England Parish in 1935 by Rev R. P. Blennerhassett, who was vicar in Kyabram at the time (1929 to 1938).
Rev Blennerhassett had purchased a property in Robinson Rd, Hawthorn in 1935 and these gates adorned part of that property.
The property was later subdivided and the gates, no longer appropriate for that site in Hawthorn, were moved to Kyabram.
Early in 1967, mention was made at a vestry meeting in Kyabram about the ‘disposal of the gates’.
A letter was written to Mrs Blennerhassett, who subsequently donated these gates to the Camberwell Anglican Girls’ Grammar School — back to the area from where they originated.
They sat for over two decades in storage until the principal of the school in 1991, Dr Barbara Fary, became captivated by their history and beauty.
Dr Fahy had this magnificent pair of carriage gates restored and re-erected at the Torrington entrance to the Camberwell Anglican Girls’ School senior campus in 1991.
The gateway was dedicated to the late Archdeacon R. P. Blennerhassett in 1991. Members of the Blennerhassett family attended the dedication.
