In Kyabram that culture comes in the form of a visit to the Kyabram Town Hall, home to a variety of art exhibits, historic salutes and, on an intermittent basis, specific celebrations of our most loved people.
Kyabram Town Hall Inc is headed up by Maria Radanov and Sheila Atley, part of the committee of management, which has a 40-strong volunteer base supporting the operation of the hall.
It is open from Monday to Saturday, 10am until 4pm, with a constant flow of those passionate Kyabram people in and out of the Allan St entry to co-ordinate visitation to the building’s four areas.
The popularity of the hall with exhibitors is echoed through its long waiting list, which often has the entire building booked out for months in advance.
“The Splinter Contemporary Artists have a permanent place here, with their rotating exhibitions,” Maria said.
“They are a Goulburn Valley-based group of artists, who are strong supporters of the hall.
“We have our community gallery, the Isobel Harvey Gallery and our Classic Gallery.”
An Elvis exhibition in the front right area of the building caught my immediate attention, as Maria and Sheila explained the planning behind the delivery of exhibitions to the Kyabram community.
“We aim to bring art and culture to the hall, many of us really do love this building,” Maria said.
“We can use it for functions, it has a commercial kitchen.
“The Kyabram Town Hall Writers’ Group holds workshops here and this is now home to our history project — remembering the Kyabram Reform Group.”
The story of the Reform Group was in one of our previous editions and a permanent reminder of the influence this group had will be erected at the rear of the building.
So, if you are in dire need of a “culture fix” then the hall has your name written all over it — there will always be something on offer to interest even the least artistic among us.
