Neighbourhood House Week was held last week with the theme ‘Building resilience by bringing people together.
Kyabram’s Neighbourhood House is located at Kyabram Community and Learning Centre in Lake Rd and offers community members many different ways to come together both during Neighbourhood House Week and throughout the year.
KCLC chief executive Jennifer Savage says bringing people together is important after such an extensive period of separation due to the pandemic.
“After all, the greatest predictor of a long life is how many connections you have with other people,” she said.
KCLC has announced its ‘try one class free’ initiative. This enables locals to try their first class to see if the fit is right for them before committing to the program.
It looks to encourage people to come out and try something new, as well as connect with people they may not have met before.
Many other community groups also use KCLC as a location to hold their classes, including: Parkinson’s support group and Parkinson’s exercise group, book club, food swap, MS Support Group, Aldara Yenara Australia Aboriginal Corporation, Warner Institute (Cert III Aged Care and Disability), kids art classes and boomerang bags, Italian Ladies and GOTAFE mobile TAFE to name a few.
KCLC also encourages residents to discuss any ideas they have or groups they would like to start within the community.
If you would like a base from which to start your group, contact the KCLC on 5852 0000 or email kclc@kclc.com.au.
