Shilling, 69, and Cartwright, 12, defeated Bill Hatzie and David Cartwright in the semi-final then Rob Sceney and Scott Donaldson in the final.
Cartwright is climbing the ladder after being selected in the Victorian U18 development squad and playing several junior tournaments leading up to the U18 championships in April.
And Shilling is continuing his great form this season after winning the Kyabram Bowls Club’s singles event.
“I’m always pleased to win a club championship and to do it with a young bloke was even better,” Shilling said.
“Bowling with Josh isn’t much different to playing with someone older. He’s a very good player and I try to help him where I can but he’s got it covered for the most part.”
Shilling said he enjoyed mentoring a new player and giving something back after three decades with the club.
“I love helping the younger group and I enjoyed helping Josh,” he said.
“It’s great for the club to have young players coming through and it’s great for the sport.
“Bowls is always going to be seen as an older person’s sport because you can play until you’re 100, but we need young players like Josh coming through.”
Shilling and Cartwright are now eyeing the GV title.
