The Goulburn Valley Auto Club (GVAC) have announced the season will include a two-day meeting over the March long weekend, a date traditionally reserved for the Super Sedan Goldrush event.
With the full race program details still to be announced, the new GVAC executive committee has been working hard on some new initiatives.
One of these will be a reduction in spectators’ gate prices for the entire race season, with gate entry for adults now set at just $20.
Considerable earthworks have been undertaken on the Rushworth Speedway Complex dams, with a view to enlarging their capacity to provide water storage for track preparation over the season.
There was little doubt that the recent drought conditions impacted on meetings scheduled for 2018/19 and with winter rains, a secure water supply should help significantly.
Local classes are set to return to Rushworth, with GV Open Sedans currently enjoying a surge in popularity and membership by the end of last season, something which is sure to continue.
Some close and exciting racing saw several closely fought encounters between the Box and Lamb cars, with Wicks Racing Team joining in, and ex-GV Champion Jay Nicholaisen also sharing the podium.
GV Production sedans remain a consistent and affordable class, with GV ladies delivering some close racing, with lap times throwing out a serious challenge to the men.
GV Juniors continue to be an excellent training ground for young drivers, and the club said it is very proud of recent juniors who last year graduated to senior ranks, delivering several top-three finishes around the state in their first year of open competition.
It is understood that Super Sedans will again feature of this year’s race schedule and that the GVAC's top local sedan event, the Paul Benton Memorial, will return.
Other regular features will be the SDAV Hot Rod’s Ray Welsh Memorial and the GP Midget’s Ironbark Classic. A round of the increasingly popular Street Stocks will also be on the Rushworth Speedway calendar in February.
