Formed in 1920, the club will celebrate the century milestone with an official function on the Saturday night, November 2.
While it has officially invited members of all its premiership teams over the years, club president and the driving force behind the reunion Matt Evans has emphasised all players, ex-players, officials or supporters of the club have an open invitation to attend the reunion.
‘‘We will welcome anyone who has had any association with the club over the years to join in the celebrations, which will be held at the Stanhope Community Hall on the Saturday night,” he said.
‘‘We are also extending an invitation to reunion goers to attend Saturday afternoon when our B and C grade sides hosts neighbour Girgarre.
‘‘The club’s annual Melbourne Cup auction and raffle is on the Sunday to wind up the weekend."
Evans said a highlight of the Saturday night function would be the naming of two teams of Stanhope’s premier players from down the years.
The club’s oldest living former player, 97-year-old Alex Nelson, has been given the task of naming the club's best team from the 1920 to 1970 period, while the best team from 1970 onwards, selected by club stalwarts Noel Gray and Graeme Luker, will also be announced on the Saturday night.
Anyone who wants to attend the reunion is asked to contact Matt Evans on 0487 740 022 or Craig Emmett on 0409 014 854.
ONE of the biggest events on Tennis Victoria’s calendar it set to return to the Goulburn Valley in 2022.
Country Week will be hosted by the Shepparton and Mooroopna Lawn Tennis Clubs and the Greater Shepparton City Council.
More than 1200 players were at the annual event in February this year and organisers are happy to get the chance to do it again in two years' time, given the economic boost it provides to the district.
THE Stanhope team of Ken Covington and Gary Pekin struck again with trotter Bicardi Wood at last week’s Echuca meeting.
Coming off his second career win at Shepparton the previous week, the Covington-trained and Pekin-driven Bicardi Wood prevailed in a crowded finish, with a head to spare over the Russ Thomson-trained runner-up Prettylilangus, with the Michael Watt-trained Hettivale filling the minor placing a neck away.
Bicardi Wood’s mile rate for the 2160m trip was an impressive 2.03.5.
A six-year-old son of Bicardi Lindy, Bicardi Wood has been sparingly raced, with only 15 starts that have now produced three wins and a minor placing.
