The former Brisbane Lion has spent the past seven years with the GVL Bombers and co-coached the team with Paul Newman to this year’s GVL flag.
Sheldon was being groomed to take over from Newman next season but opted out of this agreement towards the end of the season.
Sheldon said he decided to take on the job at Barham-Koondrook because he is working in the area.
‘‘To be honest the travelling from up there to Kyabram for training was getting to me a bit,” he said.
‘‘I will be moving up there with my family to live in January so it just seems a good fit for me at this stage of my career.”
Sheldon said while he was looking forward to the challenge of coaching at another club he would always consider Kyabram his home club.
‘‘I just love the place and I’ll always have some great memories of my time there,’’ he said.
Sheldon has been a member of three premiership (2013, 2017, 2019) and five grand final teams in his time with the Bombers.
He missed the 2016 flag triumph after tearing a hamstring in the preliminary final.
Sheldon is the second player from this season’s Kyabram premiership line-up who will be missing from its ranks next season.
Ruck hulk Jake Reeves stated after the grand final he was hanging up his boots.
But they could be the only players who will be missing in the 2020 version of the Bombers.
